Marathon Oil Corporation is an independent exploration and production company operating internationally. The company explores for, produces, and markets crude oil and condensate, natural gas liquids, and natural gas. Founded in 1887, Marathon Oil has its headquarters in Houston, Texas.
Formerly known as USX Corporation, the company changed its name to Marathon Oil Corporation in December 2001. Marathon Oil operates its business through two segments: United States and International. The company's efforts are largely focused on four of the most competitive United States resource plays, which includes the Bakken in North Dakota, the Eagle Ford in Texas, STACK and SCOOP in Oklahoma, and Northern Delaware in New Mexico. Marathon's portfolio maintains an approximate 50% oil and 50% gas/NGL production mix. Marathon also operates an integrated gas business in Equatorial Guinea, which produces, and markets products manufactured from natural gas, including liquefied natural gas (LNG), and methanol.
