The Russell 2000 Index is a stock index that was created to keep track of the movements and performance of the smallest 2,000 US-traded stocks that are induded in the Russell 3000 Index. Incorporating companies whose activities are primarily within the US, the Russell 2000 can be considered to be representative of the US economy and its consumers. The Index was launched in 1984 by the Frank Russell Company.
As of July 2022, the Russell 2000 Index has 1,979 different constituents, which represent roughly 10% of the total Russell 3000 market capitalisation. Some of the largest constituents of this index as of 31 st July 2022 induded Biohaven Pharmaceutical Holding, Shockwave Medical, Chart Industries, RBC Bearings, Karuna Therapeutics, Matador Resources, Murphy USA, and Texas Roadhouse.
The Russell 2000 index is maintained by FTSE Russell, a subsidiary of the London Stock Exchange Group. The index's constituents cover around 98% of the US's publicly traded stocks and represent around 10% of the Russell 3000's market capitalisation. They are updated on an annual basis, typically between May and June of each year. |
