Sofina SA, also known in French as Société Financière de Transports et d'Entreprises Industrielles, is a Belgian holding company that was founded in 1956. Located in Brussels, Sofina invests in a variety of sectors, including telecommunications, banks, insurance, and energy. The company’s assets are spread throughout Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK, as well as North America. Sofina is the former owner of the Anglo-Argentine Tramways Company, one of the world’s largest tram operators.
Trading under the ticker symbol SOF, Sofina is listed on the Euronext Brussels. The company went public in 1999, just before the Brussels Stock Exchange became part of the multinational Euronext, the largest stock market in Europe.
Sofina owns a stake in several well-known companies. Some of the more popular ones include the French food corporation, Danone, the French energy and utility company, ENGIE, the Belgian supermarket retailer, Colruyt Group, and the French equity firm, Eurazeo.
