W.P. Carey, Inc. is a diversified real estate investment trust (REIT) that primarily focuses on net-lease REITs. William Polk Carey, who sold cooldrink and homemade writing ink to neighbours as a child, founded the company in 1973. W.P. Carey is based in New York and operates internationally in the United States as well as Northern and Western Europe.
The company has two operational segments. The Real Estate Ownership segment focuses on the acquisition, management, and investment of commercial real estate properties. The Investment Management Segment devises and negotiates investments and debt placement transactions for REITs and manages the portfolios of real estate investments. W.P. Carey’s portfolio consists of single-tenant properties, industrial sites, warehouses, offices, retail properties, and self-storage facilities. These are based on long-term leases with built-in rent escalators.
This portfolio amounts to approximately $20bn, and, as of 30 September 2021, includes 1,264 net lease properties covering an excess of 150 million square feet. W.P. Carey caters for a diverse mix of tenants, property types, geographic locations, and tenant industries. |
